China's consumer price index, a main gauge of inflation, rose by 1.5 percent year-on-year in December, down from 2.3 percent in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday.

The slower growth of consumer inflation was mainly attributed to the decline of food prices with pork price dropping 36.7 percent year-on-year in December. Prices of industrial consumer goods also saw slower growth, rising 2.9 percent year-on-year, according to the NBS.

The country's whole-year consumer inflation grew slower than expected, up 0.9 percent year-on-year, according to the NBS.

Meanwhile, China's producer price index, which gauges factory-gate prices, rose 10.3 percent year-on-year in December, down from 12.9 percent in the previous month, the NBS said.
