The six-month Expo 2020 Dubai is drawing to a close. At 7pm on March 30th local time, the Award Ceremony was held at the Expo 2020 Dubai site. The China Pavilion won the Bronze Prize for self-built pavilions of Category A (larger than 2,500 m2) in Architecture and Landscape. This is the fourth time in a row that the China Pavilion has won an award at the world expo in recent years.
Dimitri S.Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), commented that China has a deep understanding of the purpose and essence of the world expo, which is vividly reflected in the China Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. From the grand theme of building a community with a shared future for mankind to the vivid and specific exhibition items, they all fit in with the principle and philosophy of the world expo.
Covering an area of 4,636 square meters, the China Pavilion was one of the largest foreign pavilions. Under the theme “Building of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind—Innovation & Opportunity”, the exhibition showcased China's innovation achievements in areas such as space exploration, information technology, modern transportation, artificial intelligence and smart living. The nightly light show and drone show were unique attractions at the expo site. The China Pavilion has received a total of 1.76 million visitors, including 133 officials at or above the vice-ministerial level and commissioner general of 41 participating countries. China Pavilion on Cloud was launched and operated for the first time, attracting 1.45 million online visitors. The China Pavilion, with two of the top 10 highlights released at Expo 2020 Dubai, was hailed as one of the most popular, distinctive and exciting national pavilions.
During the expo, the China Pavilion held a series of activities, including the opening ceremony, National Day, special week for provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government, and special day for enterprises, which attracted more than 46 million participants to attend in person or online. Chinese enterprises have signed nearly 100 cooperation agreements with their UAE counterparts as well as those in the Middle East and Africa with a total value of 8.7 billion yuan, covering a range of sectors such as energy, food and infrastructure.
A total of 192 countries participated in the Expo 2020 Dubai and the recipients of the Official Participant Awards were decided by an international jury composed of nine experts in the fields of expo, exhibition, design, science and technology and so on. The Official Participant Awards recognise three aspects of pavilions: theme interpretation, exhibition design as well as architecture and landscape. And, based on the size of the pavilions, they are divided into three categories, among which, the awards for large and super large self-built pavilions (larger than 2,500m2) have always been the most competitive, appealing and valuable in previous world expos. At the Expo 2020 Dubai, nearly 30 countries competed for the awards for large and super large self-built pavilions. Among the countries with large and super large self-built pavilions, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland won gold and silver awards in Architecture & Landscape respectively; Japan, Pakistan and Spain respectively won gold, silver and bronze awards in Exhibition Design; and Germany, Kazakhstan and Italy won gold, silver and bronze awards in Theme Interpretation respectively.
