From January 27 to 28, the 2026 National Meeting on Trade Promotion and the sixth session of the sixth National Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) was held in Beijing. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the meeting fully implemented the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and thoroughly carried out the decisions and arrangements of the Central Economic Work Conference. The meeting reviewed trade promotion work in 2025 and during China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period, outlined key tasks for 2026, and mapped out the development of trade promotion initiatives for the 15th Five-Year Plan period. CCPIT Chairman Ren Hongbin delivered the work report, and Vice Chairman Chen Jian’an presided over the meeting.
The meeting noted that 2025 was an extraordinary year. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, the national trade promotion system fully implemented the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, acted on the requirements of the “Year of Coordinated Development,” and achieved new results in promoting the high-quality development of trade promotion work. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the national trade promotion system advanced through four stages: reform and innovation, innovation-driven quality improvement, consolidation and upgrading, and coordinated development. Its capacity to serve overall national priorities continued to strengthen, support for enterprises became increasingly effective, deepened reform generated new momentum for growth, coordinated efforts gained greater synergy, and a proactive atmosphere took root across the system. These efforts marked a solid new chapter in accelerating the development of a world-class trade and investment promotion institution with Chinese characteristics and enhanced vitality, laying a strong foundation for trade promotion work in the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
The meeting stressed that 2026 marks the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The national trade promotion system should take synergy and efficiency enhancement as the main theme, firmly uphold the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, foster and practice a sound approach to political performance assessment, deepen collaboration and mutual empowerment, integrate efficiency improvement with the unlocking of potential, and strengthen internal capacity through solid institutional development. Efforts will be made to ensure the high-quality formulation and implementation of the trade promotion development plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, with the focus on ten key tasks, including advancing full and rigorous Party self-governance, serving China’s major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, deepening industrial promotion initiatives, expanding new space for two-way investment cooperation, enhancing the quality and effectiveness of foreign-related legal services, participating in reform of global economic governance, and building high-level, application-oriented think tanks.
The meeting called on the national trade promotion system to rally more closely around the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, to fully grasp the decisive significance of the “Two Establishments”, strengthen awareness of the “Four Consciousnesses” and the “Four Confidences”, and ensure the “Two Upholds”. It emphasized the need to ensure that the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council are effectively implemented in the field of trade promotion, to secure a strong start and solid progress for trade promotion work during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, and to make new and greater contributions to advancing the building of a strong country and the great national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.
