On May 20, the Conference on Arbitration Workforce Development of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) was held in Beijing. Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the CCPIT and Director of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC), attended the Conference and delivered a speech. Li Xingqian and Liu Jiannan, Vice Chairmen of the CCPIT, attended the conference. Nie Wenhui, Vice Chairman of the CCPIT and Deputy Director of the CIETAC and the CMAC, presided over the Conference.

The Conference highlighted that during China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, especially Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, the CCPIT has strengthened its service network for enterprises, expanded its circle of international friends, and achieved historic accomplishments in arbitration. Its global credibility, influence and leading role have significantly improved, providing a strong legal guarantee for China’s high-quality development and high-level opening-up. The CIETAC ranks among the top three major international arbitration institutions worldwide in terms of annual caseload, amount in dispute and number of countries involved, making it a preferred dispute resolution option trusted and chosen by Chinese and foreign parties. Both the caseload and disputed amount of the CMAC have increased substantially. Support has been given to the accelerated development of the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO).

It was emphasized at the Conference that in the face of the complex situation at home and abroad, efforts should be made to pursue the coordinated advancement of domestic rule of law and foreign-related rule of law, to anchor the goal of building a world-class arbitration institution, and to take the implementation of the newly revised Arbitration Law as an opportunity to further improve case handling quality and efficiency, promote deep integration of arbitration and AI, coordinate and expand the work system, accelerate the improvement of arbitration rules and procedures, deepen exchanges and cooperation with overseas arbitration institutions, and carefully organize a series of activities for the 70th anniversary of the CIETAC. It is imperative to strengthen internal capacity building, forge a high-caliber arbitration team, improve mechanisms for the training, deployment, management and assessment of arbitration personnel, continuously refine work conduct, and strictly implement rules and regulations. Adhering to a systematic approach and strengthening synergy, the CCPIT will continue to forge ahead, further enhance the competitiveness of its acclaimed arbitration services, and make greater contributions to building China into a preferred global destination for international commercial arbitration.

This important conference was held following the implementation of the newly revised Arbitration Law and the renewal of arbitrators of the CIETAC and the CMAC. Heads of relevant dispute resolution institutions under the CCPIT, along with arbitrator representatives and arbitration secretary representatives delivered  speeches and shared their insights. All staff of the CCPIT’s arbitration institutions, personnel from relevant departments, and arbitrator representatives attended the Conference.
