On September 15, the Global Business and Law Conference 2026 was held in Haikou. Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Liu Xiaoming, Governor of Hainan Province, Li Mingzheng, Vice Minister of Justice, Maria Chiara Malaguti, President Emeritus of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), Wang Zhenjiang, Vice President of the China Law Society, Ralph Nack, Reporter General of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), Zhou Hanmin, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Chairman of the Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, Peter Van den Bossche, Former Chair of the World Trade Organization Appellate Body, Wang Zhiheng, President of Agricultural Bank of China, and Yan Hao, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Pacific Construction Group attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

Ren Hongbin stated that the outline of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan emphasizes that China will expand high-standard opening up and move to a higher stage in building a socialist country under the rule of law. These efforts will provide greater development opportunities for the business and legal communities of all countries to deepen cooperation. Looking ahead, the CCPIT is ready to build higher-quality economic and trade platforms, provide higher-level legal services, and work hand in hand with the global business and legal communities to promote open cooperation and inject greater certainty and stability into world development and prosperity.

Liu Jiannan, Vice Chairman of the CCPIT, presided over the opening ceremony. On behalf of the attending business and legal communities, he released the Global Business and Law Conference 2026 Declaration, which put forward five initiatives. These are: upholding international rule of law and deepening international cooperation on industrial and supply chains; embracing digital and intelligent transformation to empower innovation and development across all sectors; deepening business-law integration to share opportunities in world economic development; encouraging open cooperation and advocating inclusive economic globalization; and building broad consensus to promote a more just and equitable global governance system.

The Conference was themed “Harnessing Digital Intelligence for Business-Law Integration, Safeguarding Institutional Opening-up through the Rule of Law”. In addition, a main forum and two parallel forums were held focusing on topics including “Empowering Global Operation through Business-Law Integration,” “Advance Diversified Dispute Resolution through the Rule of Law, Drive Open Cooperation through Digital Intelligence,” and “Protect Intellectual Property through Collaboration, Promote Institutional Opening-up through Innovation.” More than 700 representatives from relevant government departments, international organizations, business associations, renowned legal service institutions, and leading enterprises attended on site, while some overseas guests and representatives from local CCPIT systems participated online.
