On June 22, the 2026 Sustainable Markets Initiative China Forum was successfully held in Beijing during the Fourth China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE). Liu Jiannan, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), Chair of the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) China Council, Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, CEO of the Global Council of the SMI, and Peter Wilson, British Ambassador to China, attended the forum and delivered speeches.

Liu Jiannan pointed out that China has always been a major participant, contributor, and torchbearer in the global movement for building an eco-civilization. Green and low-carbon development has become the core consensus behind global economic transition. In the future, the SMI China Council will base its work on the new landscape of global green governance, draw on its operational experience, and cooperate with business community colleagues worldwide to consolidate the foundation for ecological civilization and jointly tackle global climate challenges.

Saifi stated that China holds an irreplaceable position in global supply chains and is playing an increasingly important role in shaping the technology, investment and industrial capacities for the sustainable transition in the future. She looked forward to all parties further deepening partnerships, accelerating action and unlocking greater potential for collaboration.

Wilson stated that British and Chinese enterprises have broad room for cooperation in ecology and environmental sectors. The Sustainable Markets Initiative has long been committed to advancing sustainable development transition and promoting innovative practices and pragmatic cooperation. He expressed hope that the business community would engage actively and contribute more to global sustainable development jointly.

During the forum, guests engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics such as promoting green and low-carbon transition and maintaining secure and stable supply chains. The Marine and Fisheries Working Group under SMI China Council also unveiled its new project “Building a Blue Economy: China’s Journey to Global Ocean Governance”.

The forum, co-hosted by the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) and the SMI, was themed “Building Win-Win Partnerships for Sustainable Prosperity”. Over 100 representatives, including Amanda Bissex, the UNICEF representative to China, Wei Wang, China Country’s Executive at Bank of America, and other representatives from international organizations, experts and Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs attended the forum.
