On April 16th, the UNIDO Day 2021, co-hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), was held in Shanghai. Gao Yan, Chairperson of the CCPIT, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony via video.

Gao Yan said that enterprises are the main body of technological innovation and the main force to promote the sustainable industrial development. In the face of common challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, the business communities of all countries should strengthen industrial and technological innovation and cooperation under the principles of being open, inclusive and delivering benefits to all to better promote global economic recovery and benefit the people of all countries. The Chinese government has been continuously improving the business environment, and spurring countries alongside the Belt and Road to innovate and actively participate in global innovation, so as to boost global industrial and technological progress through collaborative innovation and result-sharing. The CCPIT stands ready to join hands with all parties concerned to provide more services to the Chinese and foreign business communities in industrial and technological innovation cooperation, and to make greater contribution to world economic recovery, the realization of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The UNIDO Day has been held during the China (Shanghai) International Technology Import and Export Fair for seven consecutive years. The conference was held both online and offline, with the theme of "Industrial Technology Innovation and International Cooperation to Start the Engine of Post-epidemic Economic Recovery". Li Yong, Director-General of the UNIDO, delivered a video speech. The meeting awarded 17 innovative and sustainable technology projects certified by the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) Shanghai.
