On September 18, the China Arbitration Summit 2026 & China High-level Dialogue on Maritime and Commercial Arbitration was successfully held in Beijing. Nie Wenhui, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Gao Xiaoli, Vice President of the Supreme People’s Court, and Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), attended and addressed the event. Long Chuanhong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), and Li Hu, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC), presided over the opening ceremony and the keynote speech session respectively.

Nie Wenhui stated that as transformation unseen in a century is accelerating across the world, new and higher requirements have been placed on international dispute resolution. He called for upholding theoretical innovation to establish an arbitration philosophy of shared governance, connectivity, and mutual benefit; upholding institutional innovation to build arbitration rules that benchmark against first-class standards and adapt to the times; upholding practical innovation to create arbitration services empowered by technology and supportive of industries; and upholding cultural innovation to foster an arbitration ecosystem that is both principled and innovative, open and inclusive.

The event was a grand event marking the 60th anniversary of the UNCITRAL and the 70th anniversary of the CIETAC, and was co-hosted by the CIETAC, the CMAC, the UNCITRAL, and the All China Lawyers Association. Under the theme “International Arbitration in a Changing World,” participants held in-depth exchanges and discussions focusing on topics such as global rule-of-law connectivity, principled and innovative arbitration, and forward-looking empowerment of industries. The CIETAC released typical cases of international commercial arbitration under the Belt and Road Initiative and signed cooperation agreements with three international arbitration institutions, including the African Arbitration Association, the International Court of Arbitration in Affiliation with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre. Nearly 400 participants from 41 countries and regions attended on site, while 5.14 million views from 55 countries and regions watched online.
