On December 3, the 9th International Mediation Summit was held in Haikou, Hainan Province. Nie Wenhui, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), attended the Summit and delivered an opening speech and a keynote address. Distinguished guests from home and abroad, including Yan Xijun, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Hainan Provincial People's Congress, Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary of Singapore's Ministry of Law, and Wang Zhenjiang, Vice President of the China Law Society, also attended and addressed the Summit.
Nie Wenhui underscored the particular relevance of holding this Mediation Summit at this critical moment, as the Hainan Free Trade Port prepares to officially commence island-wide special Customs operations. As a forerunner and leader in China's commercial mediation cause, the CCPIT has made fruitful achievements through laying a solid foundation in areas such as system construction, case handling, international cooperation, and talent cultivation. Going forward, the CCPIT will adhere to the principles of expanding coverage, enhancing synergy, empowering by digital and intelligent technologies, and building brands; it will strengthen the connection between litigation and mediation, optimize training and promotion, and promote China's commercial mediation rules to the world.
Themed "New Trends in the Development of Global Commercial Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Mechanisms", the Summit was hosted by the Department of Legal Affairs of the CCPIT. A total of 34 guests from 8 countries and regions participated in the event and delivered speeches, with nearly 400 Chinese and foreign mediators, arbitrators, legal experts, and lawyers participating in person. During the Summit, a special seminar on the development plan for trade promotion during the 15th Five-Year Plan period was held, and the Selection of 100 Commercial Mediation Cases was released.
