On May 29, the 2026 Annual Meeting for the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) China Council was held in Beijing. Liu Jiannan, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Vice Chairman of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), and Chairman of the SMI China Council, attended and addressed the meeting.
Liu Jiannan noted that over the past year, member of the SMI China Council have worked in close collaboration. With a focus on sustainable development, the Council has helped Chinese enterprises engage deeply in global economic governance and has facilitated a series of practical cooperation projects, achieving remarkable results. He expressed the hope that all members would continue to act in line with the overall development agenda, deepen external cooperation, strengthen internal exchanges, enhance international coordination, and strive to be practitioners and co-builders of the global green transition.
The meeting reviewed the annual work report of the Council and voted to approve the membership applications of five enterprise. Representatives from board members and partner companies spoke in turn, putting forward specific suggestions on climate change response, green transition cooperation and other topics, which provided clear guidance on the Council’s future work.
