2025-10-11

Recently, at the invitation of the Global Council of the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) led a delegation of entrepreneurs to New York, the U.S., to attend the SMI 2025 Autumn CEO Summit.

His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom delivered a video address at the summit. Nearly 100 representatives attended, including former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, SMI Global Council Chair and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bank of America Brian Moynihan, SMI Global Council CEO Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, as well as leaders from Fortescue, Johnson Controls, Dubai Airports, Octopus Energy, and Reckitt. The summit featured in-depth discussions on topics such as the commercialization of nuclear fusion, the global scaling of sustainable aviation fuel, power grids and interconnectivity, and blended finance.

Representatives from the Bank of China New York Branch, China Construction Bank New York Branch, CNIC Corporation Limited, and JA Solar Technology participated in the summit and actively promoted the contributions the Chinese business community has made in the field of sustainable development. During their visit to the U.S., the delegation also attended the Africa: Open for Business Summit, convened on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, The Seeing is Believing: Tour of Hearst Tower by Foster and Partners, and the Green Pioneer event hosted by the Australian company Fortescue.

The SMI, launched by King Charles III during his tenure as Prince of Wales, serves as a crucial platform for the business community to participate in global sustainable development efforts. Thanks to the personal commitment and guidance of President Xi Jinping, the SMI China Council was officially established in August 2022, becoming a key cooperative platform for Chinese industrial and commercial circles to engage in global sustainable development on a broader scale, across wider fields, and at higher levels. To date, the China Council has 19 member organizations and has attracted over 30 foreign-funded partners.
