On July 22, the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) Member Event Series: Accessing UN Procurement Opportunities was successfully held in Beijing. Nie Wenhui, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the CCOIC, Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support of the United Nations, and James George, UN Resident Coordinator in China, attended the event and delivered speeches.

Nie Wenhui noted that the UN Procurement serves as a vital channel for the supply of global public goods and a strategic platform for Chinese enterprises to expand globally with high quality. The CCPIT and the CCOIC will continue to enhance specialized and regular services to support more Chinese enterprises in leveraging the UN platform to expand into global markets and strengthen international competitiveness.

Khare stated that the UN Department of Operational Support attaches great importance to cooperation with China. In recent years, it has steadily expanded the scope of direct procurement and optimized the vendor registration process,  effectively enhancing the accessibility and convenience for Chinese enterprises to participate in UN procurement. More eligible Chinese companies are welcome to register in compliance with regulations and actively engage in this process.

George said that the UN development system has always regarded China as a key partner in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. He expressed hope that the UN system in China and the CCOIC will strengthen collaboration to jointly build platforms for information sharing and capacity building, and promote the integration of more Chinese solutions into the global development agenda.

Leading officials from relevant departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the event. It also brought together representatives from more than 30 Chinese enterprises covering renewable energy, new energy vehicles, air transportation, international freight forwarding, solid waste treatment, and cross-border finance.

During the event, the Director of the UN Procurement Division and the Head of the Office of Supply Chain Management systematically explained the core rules of the UN procurement system, industrial matchmaking pathways, and the latest reform trends. China Communications Construction Group and PEAK International Trade (Tianjin) presented case studies on their successful UN procurement projects. Enterprise representatives actively raised questions on topics including qualification certification, online bidding, and ESG compliance, and UN experts provided on-site responses, delivering pragmatic and efficient exchanges. Participating enterprise representatives generally noted that the event focused on practical application and targeted matchmaking, effectively enhancing all parties’ understanding of the UN procurement system and strengthened their hands-on operational capacity.

Going forward, the CCOIC will continue to deepen cooperation with the United Nations and other international organizations, optimize its service system for enterprise internationalization, facilitate the integration of more high-quality Chinese products and services into the multilateral cooperation system, and contribute business strength to global sustainable development.
