On September 3rd, the 2020 Mainland-Macao Chambers of Commerce Joint Meeting and the Exchange Forum for Mainland and Macao Businesses was co-hosted by the CCPIT, Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the five major chambers in Macao. Gao Yan, CCPIT Chairperson, attended the meeting and made remarks. More than 130 chamber representatives from the mainland and Macao attended the meeting.
Gao Yan pointed out that the return of Macao unveiled the best time for development in history, which demonstrated the success of the “one country, two systems” principle. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the SAR Government has been adopting effective measures, and Macao and the mainland have been helping and supporting each other, showcasing the advantage of the “one country, two systems” principle that finds a balance between the overall national interest and that of Macao. Chambers and associations from the mainland and Macao should closely follow the new development philosophy and the requirements for high-quality development, build more platforms for the promotion of trade and investment and provide professional, effective and accurate service in helping businesses be more stable and competitive in industrial chains and supply chains, so as to invigorate the trade and economic cooperation and boost it to a new level.
Lei Wainong, Macao Secretary for Economy and Finance pointed out that, with the support of the central government, the Macao economy which was affected by the coronavirus is recovering in an orderly manner. Chambers and associations need to lead the business sector to come together in a “dual circulation” development pattern in which domestic economic cycle plays a leading role in a mutually supplementary relations with international economic cycle.
Representatives from Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, the five major chambers in Macao, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong committee, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangzhou Sub-council and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Zhuhai Sub-council exchanged ideas on issues including Macao’s integration into the national development, the promotion of the integration and development of industries in the Guangdong-Hong kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the joint development of the Hengqin Island by Zhuhai and Macao and serving SMEs.
At the Exchange Forum for Mainland and Macao Businesses held in the afternoon, more than 260 representatives from the business sector discussed subjects including opportunities and challenges for businesses that come with the restructuring of industrial chains and the development of innovation boosted by smart economy.
