CCPIT Patent & Trademark Law Office Opens Green Channel for Patent Application to Support Fight Against COVID-19

2020-03-09

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, innovative entities in China, especially scientific research institutions and pharmaceutical enterprises, have devoted themselves to scientific research to actively explore and develop more effective diagnosis and treatment plans. They have contributed to overcoming the epidemic and made promising scientific achievements. The rapid release and application of these scientific achievements play an important role in the fight against the epidemic, and also put forward higher requirements to protect the IPR of these scientific research results.

To strengthen the scientific and technological support for epidemic prevention and control, and fully protect the intellectual property rights and interests of innovative entities, the CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office opened a "green channel for patent application", appointed experts to keep a close watch on case subjects and special requirements entrusted by domestic enterprises. The CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office will also immediately study the subject matter from the researching companies if it is found that the cases may involve the epidemic prevention and control. Once the case is confirmed with researching enterprises, experts will be designated to process the case as a top priority, draft and submit the case report as quickly and minimize the writing cycle as much as possible. After submitting the case, the office will inform the companies immediately to clear any obstacles for them to release and apply the scientific research results in time.

Setting up a green channel will reduce the writing time needed to obtain a patent from 20 working days to 1 business day, saving valuable time for the epidemic prevention and control. So far, the CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office has formally submitted 5 patent applications for products and technologies related to the epidemic prevention and control from Beijing and Sichuan Province to the State Intellectual Property Office.
