Chairperson of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Gao Yan met with Tjekero Tweya, Minister of Industrialization, Trade and SME Development of Namibia in Windhoek on July 19. The two sides exchanged views on promoting the development of bilateral economic and trade relations.

Gao Yan said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations 29 years ago, much has been achieved in political mutual trust, infrastructure construction, minerals, energy, information and communication and other fields. CCPIT attaches great importance to economic and trade cooperation with southern African countries, and is willing to further ties with relevant government departments, chambers and associations. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, CCPIT will actively promote Chinese enterprises to invest in Namibia, introduce investment opportunities and high-quality products through various ways, effectively implement the consensus of leaders of the two countries, and boost the continuous development of bilateral economic and trade ties.

Tjekero Tweya noted, the people and political parties of China and Namibia have long history of exchanges. At present, bilateral relations have been upgraded to comprehensive strategic partnerships, and there is great potential for economic and trade cooperation. The initiation of the construction of the free trade zone on the African continent will also inject new impetus into the economic and trade cooperation between China, Africa and Namibia.

“We hope Chinese enterprises will seize this historic opportunity, participate in the economic construction of Namibia to achieve mutual benefits and common development,” added Tweya.
