The Second Straits Forum on Arbitration (the Forum), co-hosted by China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and Arbitration Center across the Straits, was held in Pingtan, Fujian on June 17. Held on the sidelines of the 11th Straits Forum and with a theme of “resolving commercial disputes and promoting integrated development”, the Forum gathered nearly 300 arbitration and legal experts and scholars from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. Lu Pengqi, Vice Chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) attended and addressed the Forum.

Lu Pengqi said, against the backdrop of increasing integrated development between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, it is common aspiration and expectation of the business communities of the two sides to resolve investment and trade disputes between main bodies of the two sides through less confrontational methods in a fair, just, efficient and harmonious manner, and to form a stable and harmonious economic and trade cooperation environment.

“The Straits Forum is the only permanent exchange platform in the mainland aimed at promoting the integrated development between arbitration services in the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. The Forum, centering on hotspot and sour arbitration issues on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, is particularly targeted and practical,” added Lu.

During the Forum, guests discussed three topics: commercial arbitration assists the construction of the first pilot homeland, commercial arbitration serves enterprises on both sides of the Taiwan Straits in their participation in the Belt and Road construction, and cross-strait arbitration services from the perspective of finance and intellectual property.
