China Corporate Compliance Promotion Alliance (CCCPA), under the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), held its 4th lecture on compliance in Beijing on July 25. The lecture, given by Professor Kersi F. Porbunberwall from EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR Academy, elaborated on the EU GDPR and its implication. Vice Chairman of CCPIT Lu Pengqi attended and addressed the lecture.

Lu Pengqi said, information technology such as big data, cloud computing and internet has facilitated enterprises in its management and operation. Meanwhile, there are more strict requirements in data collection, transmission and processing. The General Data Protection Regulation, which came into force in May, strictly stipulates the sales and services with regard to personal information products of EU citizens. Therefore, the regulation has brought new challenges to the companies’ compliance operation overseas. The lecture showed that Chinese domestic enterprises attached importance to the regulation and to the compliance operation. Lu hoped the lecture can help Chinese enterprises with the launch of business in the EU.

Professor Kersi elaborated on the General Data Protection Regulation in terms of its definitions and applications, data main body, data controller, sensitive information, etc. Kersi also guided how to deal with the clearance or the deletion of data.
