China inks deal with UAE confirming its participation in Expo 2020

China said the country will showcase its latest and cutting-edge technology at the China Pavilion of Dubai Expo 2020 as the country confirmed its participation in the expo.

China confirmed its participation by signing a deal with the United Arab Emirates in Dubai on May 8. The deal was signed between Zhang Wei, Commissioner-General of the China Pavilion and Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and Najeeb Mohammad Al Ali, Executive Director of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau. Reem Al Hashemi, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau and Ni Jian, Chinese ambassador to the UAE witnessed the signing.

Zhang Wei said, there have been 15 times for CCPIT, on behalf of the Chinese government to have organized the China Pavilion for the World Expo since its first participation in 1982. The UAE is the first gulf country to have established strategic partnership with China and have backed up China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

“The relationship between China and the UAE is fantastic. Now we have comprehensive cooperation in different fields — economy, politics, culture, education — and I think the Dubai Expo will strengthen ties between China and the UAE,” said Ni Jian.

China has confirmed to set up a separate pavilion covering an area of 4,636 square meters. The theme of the China Pavilion will be “Building a Human Community with Shared Destiny, Innovation & Opportunity”.

The UAE government officially invited China to participate in the Expo 2020 in April, 2016. CCPIT, on behalf of the Chinese government handed in the official confirmation in May, 2017.

Expo 2020 is the first of its kind in Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Covering an area of 438 hectares, the expo is expected to receive 25 million visitors. Up to now, more than 170 countries have confirmed participation. With the motto of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, the expo aims at building a partnership in the 21st century, and working collaboratively to create a better future.
