China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC) (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone Arbitration Center, as well as CMAC Measurement Dispute Arbitration Center were unveiled in Zhoushan on April 24.
The unveiling ceremony was jointly hosted by CMAC and Zhoushan municipal government, organized by Zhoushan Port and Navigation Administration, Market Supervision Administration of Zhoushan Municipality, Zhoushan Bureau of Commerce, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Zhoushan City Committee, CCPIT (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone Service Center.
CCPIT Vice Chairman Lu Pengqi noted, based on the “Maritime Power”, “Transportation Power” strategies and Belt and Road Initiative, CMAC established a number of arbitration centers at China’s coastal cities. The establishment of the two arbitration centers is not only a major event for CCPIT in the construction of China’s pilot free trade zones, but also a new measure for CMAC in building an international first-class arbitration agency.
“By favor of the advantages of CCPIT and CMAC, as well as the open investment environment of Zhoushan, the two arbitration centers will contribute to improving the legal services of the pilot free trade zones, help enterprises to enhance capabilities in legal risk prevention and dispute settlement, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the enterprises. Ultimately, they will provide legal protection for the development and construction of Zhejiang pilot free trade zone, Yangtze River and ocean multimodal transport service center and Zhoushan archipelago new area,” added Lu
Former Secretary of General Administration Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine Du Yuejun said, CMAC Measurement Dispute Arbitration Center will become the first of its kind in the field of bulk commodity trade in China and the world. It will provide efficient and professional ways for measurement and arbitration disputes.
Deputy Mayor of Zhoushan Xu Xiaoyue said, the two centers will guarantee the capability in comprehensive service in Zhoushan and the service related to the Belt and Road construction. In addition, it is a major measure for improving maritime service in Zhoushan. With the support of Zhoushan municipal government, CMAC and Zhoushan City will create an international, legalized and convenient business environment.
After the two centers were unveiled, a seminar with regard to maritime/shipping and trade legal risk prevention and dispute settlement was held.
The major topis for discussion include the latest development of international maritime trade law, legal risk prevention and response of commodity trade, the contract signing, performance and dispute settlement in shipbuilding industry, and the strategy of making arbitration clause and risk prevention.
CMAC Measurement Dispute Arbitration Center mainly deals with dispute settlement related to the measurement discrepancy in goods trading, storage, transportation, logistics and insurance.
