The Inaugural Meeting of ICC China Commission on Environment and Energy was held in Beijing on the morning of June 24. Jiang Zengwei, chairman of the CCPIT, CCOIC and ICC China, attended the meeting and delivered keynote speech. Li Nuyun, deputy director of Department of Climate of National Bureau of Forestry and leaders from Ministry of Environmental Protection were present at the meeting and delivered speeches. The meeting was hosted by Yin Zonghua, vice chairman of the CCPIT and CCOIC. Yu Jianlong, secretary general of the CCOIC, made a working report on the preparation of the commission on environment and energy.

The meeting approved the working report and working regulation of the preparation of the commission on environment and energy, elected the board of management of the commission. Qiao Baoping, chairman of China Guodian Corporation, was elected as chairman of the Commission on Environment and Energy, Yang Guang, chairman of Guodian Technology & Environment Group Corporation Limited and Zhu Gongshan, chairman and CEO of Golden Concord Holdings Limited ("GCL"), were elected as executive chairman. Zhou Litao, chief legal consultant of China National Coal Group Corp., Xiong Shaohui, chairman of Guangdong Zhenrong Energy Co., Ltd., Zhao Gang, researcher of CASTED, Qin Shengyi, chairman of Beijing Reachsand Science & Technology Group, and Wang Jihong, senior partner of Zhonglun Law Firm, were elected as vice chairman of the commission.

Jiang first made congratulations on the election of the commission chairman, executive chairmen and vice chairmen. He pointed out that the establishment of ICC China Commission on Environment and Energy is very significant that it provides a platform for Chinese companies to involve into the formulation of rules and practices of environment and energy, and the communication and cooperation between China and abroad, to help promote China’s structural reform, build an environmental-friendly and energy-saving society, safeguard national ecological safety and promote the creation of a fair, reasonable and mutually-beneficial global climate treatment system.

Jiang hoped that the elected management of the commission shall involve actively into China’s environmental protection and energy utilization, to showcase good image of Chinese companies and demeanor of Chinese outstanding entrepreneurs and China’s responsibilities in global environment treatment. The commission shall promote environmental rules and practices, involve into formulation of rules and open up industrial communications. The CCPIT and CCOIC will provide necessary support.

Qiao Baoping said that the commission will actively involve into the activities organized by ICC Commission on Environment and Energy to gain more discourse power. It will organize various activities regularly to promote communication among energy companies of both home and abroad, enhance cooperation and make the commission a good platform for environmental protection and energy utilization.

Later, Jiang Zengwei offered certificates to the elected chairman, executive chairmen and vice chairmen of the commission.

The commission will conduct work in several areas, including recommending experts to ICC to involve into the formulation of rules, promote rules and policies related to environment and energy, and create platform for international business cooperation.

ICC Commission on Environment and Energy is comprised of 308 representatives from 75 multinational corporations and representatives from 33 industry associations, to study global environmental and energy issues, such as climate change, green economy and sustainable development. The commission also sent policy recommendations to UN and inter-governmental organizations on behalf of global business industry. In recent years, the commission also attended meetings and activities of UN climate change framework convention, advocated the participation of global business industry and provided solutions to global climate issues.
