The Sustainable Markets Initiative China Council CEO Dialogue & Inauguration and Achievements Release Ceremony of Sustainable Markets Initiative China Council Working Groups event was held successfully on the afternoon of November 26 at the 2nd China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE). Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Vice Chairman of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), Jennifer Jordan-Saifi, CEO of the Global Council of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, and Rahul Ahluwalia, Deputy Trade Commissioner & Minister Counsellor at British Embassy Beijing, attended and addressed the event. Leaders of member units and partners of the Sustainable Markets Initiative China Council held in-depth discussions on the theme “Joining Hands for Green Development and Achieving Mutual Benefits”.
Yu Jianlong stated that, due to the strong pressure of climate change, green development has become a hallmark of economic development in this era. Member units of the China Council should strengthen communication and cooperation under the framework of the Sustainable Markets Initiative to build consensus in the business community; they should strengthen CEO leadership to promote practical results together, and leverage working groups to enhance communication and cooperation with the Global Council.
Jennifer Jordan-Saifi emphasized the importance of accelerating the development of a green and low-carbon supply chain, stating that the Sustainable Markets Initiative is a critical multilateral business cooperation mechanism in global climate and environmental governance. The Global Council and the China Council should adhere to the concept of win-win cooperation and collaborate to accelerate the realization of a sustainable future.
Rahul Ahluwalia expressed that Chinese and British enterprises are important participants and contributors in addressing climate change and protecting biodiversity, as well as the core driving force behind the global green transition. He hoped that members of the Global Council and the China Council would maintain close contact and collaborate to achieve the global net-zero goal.
During the event, the China Council’s working groups on energy transition, green finance, carbon capture, utilization and storage, and water were officially established, and a ceremony was held to release the achievements of the China Council’s health system working group.
