On the afternoon of June 25, the Dialogue on Standard Essential Patents (SEP) was successfully held in Beijing during the 4th China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE). Nie Wenhui, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Wang Hongyan, Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign-Related Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, and Peng Wen, Deputy Director General of the IP Utilization Promotion Department of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), attended and addressed the event.
Nie Wenhui noted that as the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, marked by mounting uncertainties and instability. enterprises face diverse risks ranging from geopolitical tensions and policy shifts to debt defaults and patent disputes. Strengthening comprehensive IP protection is therefore essential to facilitating technological exchange, industrial synergy, mutual trust confidence, and win-win cooperation. The CCPIT stands ready to leverage the CISCE as a platform to help enterprises enhance cooperation, foster industrial clustering along supply chains, and promote the coordinated development of standards and patents.
Keynote speeches on frontier industry topics were delivered by representatives from the Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People's Court, China Foreign Affairs University, Licensing Executives Society International, and Schneider Electric. Representatives from Huawei, the China National Institute of Standardization, Beijing Rogers Law Firm, and Digital Interconnection Co. exchanged ideas and shared insights on the topic of "How Mediation Can Facilitate the Settlement of Standard Essential Patent Disputes". During the event, the Expert Panel on SEP Disputes of the CCPIT Mediation Center was officially launched. Additionally, the Guidelines for Standard Essential Patent Licensing and Dispute Response (2026 Updated Edition), jointly compiled by the Beijing Intellectual Property Public Service Center and the CCPIT Commercial and Legal Service Center, was officially released.
Hosted by the CCPIT Commercial and Legal Service Center, the Dialogue attracted approximately 100 representatives from government departments, judicial institutions, higher education institutions, legal service providers, and innovative enterprises.
