The 15th China-LAC Business Summit Successfully Held in Guayaquil

From December 14th to 15th, the 15th China-Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Business Summit was held in Guayaquil, Ecuador. With the theme of "Seizing the Post-epidemic Recovery Opportunity and Building an Interconnected World", the summit was co-hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Ecuador's Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries. Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the CCPIT and China Chamber of International Commerce, led a delegation of entrepreneurs to attend the summit in Ecuador.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, it is the first large economic and trade event held offline by the CCPIT in the LAC countries, playing a positive role in boosting China-LAC economic and trade cooperation, deepening people-to-people exchanges and building the China-LAC community with a shared future.

Guillermo Lasso, President of Ecuador, Ren Hongbin, Juan Carlos Holguin, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador, and Julio Jose Prado, Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of Ecuador, delivered speeches at its opening ceremony. Chen Guoyou, Chinese Ambassador to Ecuador, and Zhang Tao, Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Guayaquil, attended its opening ceremony.

The summit includes a plenary session and parallel sessions. More than 60 events including the China-LAC TPOs Round Table Meeting, China-LAC Business Matchmaking and sideline exhibitions were also held. During the summit, Ren Hongbin and Ana María Gallardo, Vice Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of Ecuador, jointly released the Guayaquil Initiative on China-LAC Business Cooperation, and called on business communities of China and the LAC to deepen connectivity, conduct innovation cooperation, advance green transition, develop digital economy and fulfil social responsibility. More than 220 representatives from political, business and academic circles of China and 17 LAC countries attended the summit offline. A total of over 600 people joined the summit online or offline.

The 16th China-LAC Business Summit will be held in Beijing in the second half of 2023.
