On November 4th, Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), was invited to attend the reception at Buckingham Palace. It was hosted by King Charles III ahead of the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27). More than 200 global political and business leaders, including the new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang, and Chairman of Bank of America Brian Moynihan, joined the reception.

King Charles III spoke highly of the progress made by the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) China Council, and welcomed member enterprises of the SMI China Council to engage in the R&D and application of carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) and make greater contributions to the formulation of relevant international standards in this area.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that the UK hosted the COP26 last year as the holder of the COP Presidency, and will continue to play a positive role in global green transformation, for which great support from the Chinese business community is expected.

At the reception, Yu Jianlong briefed on the current situation and outlook of the SMI China Council and noted that the SMI China Council was officially inaugurated in August under the support of President Xi Jinping and King Charles III. The SMI China Council maintains a sound momentum of development with various events in full swing. He believes that as Chinese-style modernization continuously advances, the potential for green cooperation among China, the UK, and other countries will continue to be tapped.
