CCPIT held its regular press conference for March in Beijing on March 20. According to Zhang Guofu, Director of CCPIT Trade Development and Cooperation Center, CCPIT is about to start product testing certification (international standards) service. He also briefed about CCPIT’s provision of service for SMEs’ exports and answered questions from the media. The press conference was chaired by Deputy Director of CCPIT Office Dang Hong and attended by around 30 journalists.
According to Zhang Guofu, with the expedition of economic globalization and deepening of regional economic integration, the role of tariffs as a trade barrier is weakening while the impact of technical barriers to trade (TBTs) such as technological regulations, quality standards and Conformity Assessment Procedures is increasing. It happens quite frequently that Chinese exports face TBTs. The product testing certification to be carried out by CCPIT will be able to help companies deal with TBTs, improve the international standards conformity of Chinese products and lowering the potential risk of “going global”. This service will be officially provided by CCPIT Trade Development and Cooperation Center in the name of “CCPIT Product Testing Certification (International Standards) Center”.
Zhang Guofu said, in order to provide faster, more convenient and efficient service to SMEs, CCPIT Trade Development and Cooperation Center will set up service windows on Trade Access Master, CCPIT’s platform for providing comprehensive service to SMEs where companies can make enquiry and finish procedures online. The Trade Development and Cooperation Center will make exports testing certification a regular and routine work, together with existing trade service, one of the two major tasks for promoting exports and help Chinese companies especially SMEs’ “going global” efforts. As of today, the Trade Development and Cooperation Center has signed cooperative agreements with a handful of international authoritative agencies including Committee of US Alliance of Independent Testing Laboratories Committee, Washington Laboratory of the US and European Standard Advisory Center. In alignment with the “Belt and Road” Initiative, agreements have also been signed with relevant agencies in South Africa, Russia, Israel and UAE.
Dang Hong also made briefings about the 60th Business Forum of the Annual Meeting of Inter-American Development Bank and China Pavilion Country of Honor activities at Mostar International Economic and Trade Exhibition.
